City On A Hill

City On A Hill

Matt 5 14-16

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house.
16 Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Christians who shine their light for Christ; proclaiming who he is; is what God calls us to do.  It is how Christians show the world  how much God loves them and what Jesus has done to restore their relationship with him.

A Light hidden becomes ineffective. How? By definition a light stimulates sight and makes things visible.  so we deduce if light is hidden, essentially there is not sight, and things can not be seen. . A city in Jesus’ day was usually built on top of a hill and could be seen for miles. It was very visible. Since we don’t use many today; you may not know; but a  bushel is a container holding a unit of measure about 32 litres. So the big bowl Jesus is talking about here was about was used for measuring grain. The purpose of lighting a lamp was so everyone could see. If you put it under something, then the purpose was defeated.

When do you do that? Can you Identify with not wanting to be ridiculed or persecuted, so you stay quiet.
A light on a stand unveils all. So an effective light is one that is lit and displayed so that what is in the dark is now visible. if we are going to be effective, we need to be visible.  How is this done? This does not mean shining your light among church family. Of course, that isn’t a bad thing, but its a false bravado.

(Sidenote; in an effort to do things differently than the world, christians can totally isolate themselves whenever possible from unbelievers. That is out of balance. We need to remember Jesus stayed in the world and had us remain in the world, we are to examine our lives to make sure we have not isolated ourselves at an attempt of staying good and pure.  If our lights are going to be seen by the world, then we must be involved in the world, not isolated from it.If we are not out in the world how can they see you? )

Are you salty and light when you are alone at work, out shopping, about your daily travels? Do you have great worth and reliability to stand for the things of Christ? Can others see something different in you?

I challenge you today; Proclaim His great name!  Let your light shine.  Everyone can be effective in the body of Christ from right where they are. It isn’t just the pastors and ministers who are called to reach the lost.  You were chosen by God for the very place that you are in. Your daily routine (work/school/errands) becomes your mission field. Be available when you are called out, or questioned about what is different about you.

The light in our life (which comes from Christ) is meant to point people to Him.. That is the task that Jesus has left you on the planet to accomplish in your walk.

Of course our walk can never be where we would like it because as long as we walked this earth, we shall never be like Him,  NEVER be perfect we will never be sinless what the landless so praise God for his redeeming blood that the work on the cross was done by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, so we do not need to be perfect that we do not need to pay for our sins but rather take on the righteousness of Christ and the covering of the blood that was slain for us to Calvary.

As we improve our walk growing closer to our Lord and Savior; as we allow the Holy Spirit to sharpen who we are. It is then we become the clay in the Potter’s hands is that continues to be what drives and defines us. Our bedtime prayers should plead “Lord show me where I failed” “ Lord teach me where I could be better”

I pray that it is the cry of our heart that we become more and more translucent so that he can become more and more evident.

…Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
